Antigua PM Defends Record, Cites Low Corruption in Public Office
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has defended his administration’s record on governance, insisting that Antigua and Barbuda enjoys relatively low levels of corruption in public office compared with other countries.
Speaking on Point FM, Browne said public resources are being “utilised exclusively for the benefit of our people,” allowing the government to expand housing, education and healthcare programmes.
He admitted that “some level of corruption” may exist, but argued that whenever excesses are identified, measures are taken to plug loopholes and prevent waste.
Browne contrasted his government’s stewardship with nations where he said public funds are routinely squandered, adding that Antigua and Barbuda’s progress in infrastructure, social programmes and investment has been possible precisely because resources are not lost to large-scale corruption.

I read this piece with much mirth, merriment and glee.
However, I give kudos to Browne for his efforts in trying to hoodwink the masses, unless he’s going to turn over a new leaf, and supply the request for the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) asvrequested by the Most Honourable Member of Parliament Richard Lewis.
To be fair to Browne, I will read this again for its effervescent gaiety and levity – I do enjoy a good belly laugh 🤣
