The Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association (ABHTA) is paying tribute to Veneta Burton, remembering her as a pioneering figure whose influence on the tourism industry in Antigua and particularly Barbuda will endure.
The association reflected on Burton’s legacy as it prepares to launch Season 3 of its Unveiling Hospitality Professional (UHP) series, noting that she had been selected as one of the professionals to be featured before her passing.
In 2023, during the UHP series, the ABHTA highlighted hospitality professional Anreka Geness of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, including a cameo appearance by Burton expressing her pride and support for Geness. The moment was described by the association as a reflection of Burton’s commitment to mentorship and professional development within the sector.
In a newly released video tribute, Geness reflects on both her professional and personal experiences with Burton, underscoring the guidance, encouragement and inspiration Burton extended to colleagues across the industry.
The ABHTA said that while Burton will no longer be able to be featured in the upcoming season of the UHP series, her passion, drive and example continue to live on through the many individuals she mentored and supported.
The association said it honors Burton’s legacy and celebrates her lasting contributions to tourism in Antigua and Barbuda, particularly her impact on the development and visibility of Barbuda’s hospitality sector.
Veneta Burton is remembered as a trailblazer whose influence helped shape careers and strengthen the industry she served.
She will not be forgotten.

She really was a wonderful woman. Like me a Lester Bird follower. We have had many encounters in New York, but also here when she returned home. It was very heavy for her when she lost her mom and her sister because of covid in the USA. And yes everyone knows her because of the fish broth that she liked to cook. Had my sweetest grouper ever from her.
She will be missed by all her family and friends.
Rest in Peace Veneta. Rest in Peace.
I challenge anyone to point out one single thing that she has done to advance tourism in Barbuda?
Yes there is a lasting legacy and it’s not good.
