ABHTA Mourns The Passing Of Immediate Past Chairman Alexandre De Brito E Cunha

The Antigua & Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association (ABHTA) is deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Alexandre De Brito E Cunha, the immediate past Chairman of the ABHTA. Mr. De Brito, who handed over the leadership of the Association to Craig Marshall in April 2023, remained a dedicated Board member until his passing.

For decades, Mr. De Brito was an integral figure within the ABHTA, dedicating much of his life to the mission of the Association, which aims to serve as the central voice for the hospitality industry in Antigua and Barbuda. His unwavering commitment to the advancement of the industry and to the development of its people was evident in his tireless work, especially through challenging periods like the Covid-19 pandemic. Mr. De Brito was instrumental in guiding the Association through this crisis, providing invaluable leadership and ensuring that the needs of the industry were met. His dedication to the ABHTA was nothing short of relentless.

Craig Marshall, Chairman of the ABHTA, shared his heartfelt condolences:
“Mr. De Brito was not only an incredible leader but also a mentor and friend. He was instrumental in my transition into the role of Chairman, and I will forever be grateful for the wisdom and guidance he provided. His presence in the Association, his devotion to our mission, and his love for the industry will be missed. My thoughts are with his wife Yovanni, his immediate family, and the entire team at Galley Bay Resort during this difficult time.”

Patrice Simon, Executive Director of the ABHTA, also expressed her sorrow:
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of Mr. De Brito. He afforded me the opportunity to join the ABHTA as Executive Director, and it was under his strong and steady guidance that I was able to work in this position with confidence. I will miss our many strategy sessions, his leadership, his time, and his mentorship. His presence, wisdom, and encouragement will be greatly missed. Rest in eternal peace Mr. De Brito”

The Board of Directors and Secretariat of ABHTA extends its deepest condolences to Mr. De Brito’s wife, Yovanni, his extended family, and the entire team at Galley Bay Resort & Spa. Mr. De Brito’s legacy of leadership and service will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

The ABHTA collectively represents the hospitality industry by educating, advocating and promoting to increase visitation and the economic benefits for Antigua and Barbuda. The primary focus is on the needs and best interests of the members of the Association. The membership of the Antigua & Barbuda Hotels & Tourism Association is open to all hotels, restaurants, airlines, and companies directly or indirectly involved in the tourism sector of Antigua and Barbuda.   1. I knew Alex personally. Always a very loving and kind. He was kind to his staff and always looked for opportunities to bless them. He was a family man and he was a true white black man. RIP
