
The Antigua & Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association (ABHTA) is mourning the death of George Jeffery, a longtime contributor to Barbuda’s tourism sector who was widely regarded for his dedication to promoting the island’s natural heritage.
In a statement, the association described Jeffery as a passionate ambassador for Barbuda, noting his work in showcasing the island’s environment and culture to visitors. He was closely associated with tours and educational activities linked to the Frigate Bird Sanctuary and the Barbuda Lagoon, two of Barbuda’s most significant eco-tourism sites.
ABHTA said Jeffery’s knowledge, enthusiasm and welcoming manner left a lasting impression on visitors and helped strengthen Barbuda’s reputation as a unique and environmentally rich destination.
The association extended condolences to Jeffery’s family and friends, as well as the Barbuda Tourism Office and the wider Barbuda community.
Jeffery’s passing is being felt across the tourism sector, where he was known as a committed advocate for sustainable tourism and community-based experiences in Barbuda.
