he Antigua & Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association (ABHTA) has donated EC$10,000 to the Gilbert Agricultural and Rural Development (GARD) Centre following a recent burglary. During a brief ceremony, ABHTA Chairman Craig Marshall presented the cheque to GARD Centre Executive Director June Jackson.
The GARD Centre, a non-profit in Mercers Creek, St. Peter, has provided training and support to over 8,000 vulnerable youth, men, and women for over 34 years.
The burglary, which occurred between June 14 and June 17, 2024, resulted in the loss of EC$150,000 worth of essential equipment.
Despite this setback, the Centre resumed training on July 1, 2024, with limited resources, showing resilience and determination.
The GARD Centre is enhancing security measures, including installing burglar bars, security cameras with alarms, and conducting manual patrols.
The ABHTA encourages community support for the GARD Centre’s rebuilding efforts through donations of equipment, funds, and other resources.
