ABEC recognized for Electoral excellence at a high-level conference in Santo Domingo
The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) was among Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs), who were recognized for outstanding achievements, at the 20th International Electoral Awards & Symposium, which took place in Santo Domingo on Tuesday.
The awards ceremony is organized yearly by the International Centre for Parliamentary Studies (ICPS).
Supervisor of Elections, Mr. Ian. S Hughes and former Supervisor of Elections, Dame Lorna Simon, who was also nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award, were present on the Commission’s and Antigua and Barbuda’s behalf.
Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission, His Excellency Ambassador Arthur G.B. Thomas extends his heartfelt congratulations to the Supervisor of Elections, staff and the entire Commission on receiving the prestigious Election Management Award for Outstanding Achievement in electoral work.
“This recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and professionalism exhibited by all those involved in ensuring the integrity and transparency of our electoral processes.
It is a momentous achievement for Antigua and Barbuda to be acknowledged on the international stage, underscoring our commitment to upholding democratic values and the rule of law. This award not only reflects the outstanding work of the Commission but also highlights the collective efforts of our dedicated team, partners, and citizens who continue to support the enhancement of our electoral systems”, he further explained.
He added that “this achievement serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of a fair, transparent, and efficient electoral process in strengthening democracy. It is a proud moment for our nation, and I look forward to continued collaboration as we strive for even greater accomplishments in the future”.
ABEC was among the top three finalists for the Election Management Award along with the Electoral Commission of South Africa and the State Election Commission of Rajasthan in India. The latter was adjudged the winner of the category.
