The Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF) Coast Guard commissioned its latest asset, the 38-foot interceptor CG 11-1 SWORDFISH, on Tuesday. This addition strengthens maritime security and the Coast Guard’s ability to patrol the nation’s 110,000 square kilometres of waters, combating narcotics trafficking and illegal fishing. Brigadier Telbert Benjamin, Chief of Defence Staff, expressed confidence in the vessel’s operational impact. The SWORDFISH underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding national waters and enhancing maritime safety.

  1. Swordfish??!!! Should be CG CALI, or TALAPIA…well… not TALAPIA. CHUBFISH as it taste so delicious.

  2. It’s made by the Renegade Powerboat company out of Florida and once the coast guard crew know exactly how to use it (I saw a video where they were zooming along but with the trim set down… 👀🤣), it will be a great boat to patrol and respond quickly to emergencies around the coasts of Antigua & Barbuda.

Naming it Swordfish is actually cool since that boat can travel at around the same speed as the fish (around 60 mph or more) if the crew are feeling brave and really open up the throttle.

  3. Okay, so maybe now we will be able to intercept some of the gun shipments destined for our shores. Let’s put the sword fish to good use

  4. WASTE OF MONEY

THIS IS 2025 ANTIGUA DESERVES BETTER.

IN THE 1980S ANTIGUA HAD NOT ONE BUT 3 CUTTERS.

CHECK OUT ST KITTS COAST GUARD VESSELS PLEASE.

ANTIGUA NEEDS VESSELS THAT THE OFFICERS CAN BE AT SEA FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. ANYTHING LESS IN 2025 IS A WASTE OF MONEY.

  5. That’s fantastic news for Antigua in truth. The addition of the CG 11-1 SWORDFISH sounds like a significant boost for the Coast Guard. I hope they can find all those missing at sea. It’s great to see the government investing in maritime security. With such a vast area to patrol, this new interceptor will definitely enhance the capabilities of the ABDF Coast Guard.

  6. Great news. At least i hope there is prompt response when signaled for stranded and missing vessels, drugs etc.

  7. @Melchesidec: Definitely not a waste of money. The ABDF Coast Guard does not need a vessel that can be at sea for several weeks! That’s the job of our larger partners in the Caribbean; US Navy, US Coast Guard, Royal Navy, Royal Netherlands Navy, French Navy and others.

I have seen two of the primary St. Kitts & Nevis Coast Guard vessels. They are made by a company called SAFE boats (I don’t know what versions they have) and were donated by the US government to St. Kitts in 2012. While they are good boats and can do the job required, they are not intended for weeks at sea either.

  8. When ABDF have to travel by sea, they beg ride from St Kitts and Barbados and Guadeloupe etc.

  9. I sincerely hope that the Marine Cadets of the National Cadet Corps will be given the opportunity to be exposed to this. You have a Cadet who is actively building his future in this field, and it’s crucial for the CDS to recognize and invest in him, along with others who share the same passion. Our children needs to be encouraged and support. This is not about ego but about investing in the next generation. I am confident that the Coast Guard will do an excellent job with the new equipment given to them.
