
The Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force is hosting the inaugural visit of UK Chief of Defence Staff General Sir Nicholas Carter GCB , CBE , DSO , ADC Gen , and his wife, Lady Carter.
General Sir Nicholas Carter (born 11 February 1959) is a Kenyan-born senior British Army officer. He served as commanding officer of 2nd Battalion, Royal Green Jackets in
which role he was deployed to Bosnia in 1998 and Kosovo in 1999.
After service in Afghanistan, he took command of 20th Armoured Brigade in 2004 and commanded British forces in Basra. In September 2014, he became head of the British
Army as Chief of the General Staff succeeding General Sir Peter Wall. In June 2018 he succeeded Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach as Chief of the Defence Staff. The General and his wife are accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Anton Gash, the UK Defence Attaché for the Caribbean.
The General, his wife, and staff arrived at the VC Bird International Airport on 30 January 2020. On 31 January, 2020 the General inspected a Guard of Honour parade at Camp Blizard that was held in his honour. Thereafter, he met with Chief of Defence Staff
ABDF, Colonel Sir Trevor A. Thomas, Vice CDS, Lt Col Telbert Benjamin, senior
command and staff during which discussions were held on mutual cooperation and
support from the UK Military.
