Sports Minister Daryll Matthew has announced a surge in tourism bookings ahead of the upcoming Cricket World Cup, showcasing Antigua and Barbuda’s successful efforts in establishing itself as a top cricketing destination.

During a recent parliamentary session, Minister Matthew highlighted the impressive advance bookings for the event, with between 7,000 and 8,000 room nights already secured for the period of June 9th to 23rd.

This significant number of bookings is expected to inject millions into the local economy, just from accommodations for teams and support staff.

This figure does not include the anticipated spending by cricket fans and additional visitors who will be attending the matches and related events.

“The impact goes beyond mere accommodation,” Minister Matthew emphasized, pointing out the multiplier effect such events have on various sectors including catering, transportation, and security services.

The forthcoming Cricket World Cup not only highlights the island’s readiness to host international events but also its capacity to significantly boost its hospitality and tourism sectors.

This influx of visitors and the global exposure are poised to further enhance Antigua and Barbuda’s reputation as a premier locale for hosting major international cricket events, continuing to build on the groundwork laid in previous years that has seen the nation host a series of high-profile cricket tournaments.

  1. Well…more opportunities for crime. Visitors need to be warned to be vigilant…because this corrupt and uncaring police force doesn’t care about anyone but themselves, and are sometimes even involved in the criminal act.
And don’t get me started on the fact that the dunder-heads…AG and his cohorts keep spewing that Antigus is safe!
    Visitors be careful!

  2. All these foreign corporation that owns these hotels bolstered by all the tax concession given by the government, meaning it’s the poor black people who is the real owner, and the government set it so these corporation can have tax free wealth extraction, so it doesn’t matter the number of people come, it’s not going to benifit Antigua, only the foreign bank accounts of these corporation, the Antiguans as menial workers will earn the low salary Gaston negotiated with these investors.
