Sports Minister Daryll Matthew has announced a surge in tourism bookings ahead of the upcoming Cricket World Cup, showcasing Antigua and Barbuda’s successful efforts in establishing itself as a top cricketing destination.
During a recent parliamentary session, Minister Matthew highlighted the impressive advance bookings for the event, with between 7,000 and 8,000 room nights already secured for the period of June 9th to 23rd.
This significant number of bookings is expected to inject millions into the local economy, just from accommodations for teams and support staff.
This figure does not include the anticipated spending by cricket fans and additional visitors who will be attending the matches and related events.
“The impact goes beyond mere accommodation,” Minister Matthew emphasized, pointing out the multiplier effect such events have on various sectors including catering, transportation, and security services.
The forthcoming Cricket World Cup not only highlights the island’s readiness to host international events but also its capacity to significantly boost its hospitality and tourism sectors.
