The University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus on Thursday awarded certificates to 432 graduates from its LifeLong Learning Unit.

Governor General Sir Rodney Williams joined university officials, families, and friends at the ceremony held at the campus’s Assembly Hall.

Head of the unit Paula Lee said the growing number of graduates reflects Antigua and Barbuda’s commitment to continuous education and skills development.

Top honors went to Nickishia Carr-Ramkellawan, an employee of CARDI, who completed four courses with the highest average.

Campus Registrar Dr. Camille Samuel, in her feature address, urged graduates to value listening, act responsibly, and use their knowledge to uplift others.

Among the graduates were 11 inmates from His Majesty’s Prison who completed the Seeds of Hope Programme through scholarships.

The Life Long Learning Unit has already published its 2026 programme and is encouraging early registration.

  1. So much wonderful news. And it all started because a man had a vision to make Antigua and Barbuda an Economic Powerhouse in the Caribbean. And many at the opposition side, schoft at him and laught making fun of his vision. He fought for Antigua and Barbuda to be establishing a University because of the same vision that you have to educate people if you are thinking longterm. And again they mocked his vision saying Antigua will never have a University. Especially UWI will not waterdowmn their brand to have a univeristy here. Then some said the location is not a good one . History is however taking place right infront our very eyes. And we can see his vision enfolding. And he is being absolved day by day. And those critics are grabbing for other straws. Shame to admit that they were wrong. It is such a pleasure to see that many young children are now taking up the challenge to be educated on tertiary level, and at the same time elder person are aslo grabbing the opportunity to make up for lost years and taking part in the Life Long Learning Program. Thanks to Mrs. Paula Lee who has done a tremendous job in sensitizing the community and inspiring them to take the opportunity. You are never to old to learn. Sometime I too want to take up the challenge but then I keep saying what will I do with that additional knowledge? Take it to my grave? As it is now for me I’m enjoying my senior years. Golf is everything for me these days. And ofcourse coming and publishing my comments to share with those that appreciate a different opinion. Soon our workforce will be a very high educated workforce and the salaries will have to be matched against this. This will surely take up the Per Capita Income. What I wish that this also leads to is better political representation in our parliament. presently it is one sided. The persons with brain are only on the side of the ABLP. I guess nobody wants to be associated with laggards, loosers, Conmen and Rapers. All their intellectual members have left and jump ship to the ABLP.
But I would like to congratuate all the 432 graduates and wish all of you all the best in lives endeavors.
