You goat to be kidding me. Is everything they thief now?
The theft of goats is a serious issue, as it affects the livelihood of hardworking farmers. It’s good to see that the authorities have acted swiftly, and I hope this serves as a warning to others considering similar actions.
It’s disappointing to see incidents like this happening in our community. Stealing livestock not only hurts the farmers but also impacts local agriculture
LARCENY- VALUE: …RECEIVING
AH HA! ‘…You ‘GOAT’ to be kidding me’ (above). Like it.
NOW:
In the charge of ‘…LARCENY,’ it has always been:
(a) ‘…Without consent of owner:
(b) …Without a Claim of right made in good faith:
(c) …Taking and carrying away anything capable of being stolen:
(d) …With intent at the time of such taking:
(e) …Permanently to deprive the ‘OWNER’ thereof.’
(f) …Then there is the ‘VALUE.’
NOTE:
If …VALUELESS-MONETARY/INTRINSIC,’ and abandoned (off property), it could ‘NEVER’ be ‘…LARCENY OR RECEIVING.’
***
Not the darn ‘GOATS,’ though.
Anywhere kept or tied:
(i) ‘…ALWAYS IN THE CONSTRUCTIVE POSSESSION OF: and
(ii) …The OWNER ALWAYS RETAINS OWNERSHIP OF PROPERTY.’
***
RECEIVING STOLEN PROPERTY
Evidentially, it has ‘…ALWAYS’ been about: ‘…KNOWLEDGE’ that the property ‘…RECEIVED’ was:
(a) …INFACT STOLEN.’
***
WHILE:
If not so ascertained by the ‘…Criminal investigator,’ then the alternative charge of:
(b) ‘…UNLAWFUL POSSESSION’ is considered.
***
Both- RECEIVING AND UNLAWFUL POSSESSION CHARGES’ have ‘…NO VALUE’ inserted in the particulars of the ‘…CHARGES.’
EVIDENTIALLY REQUIRES VALUE
BAD FOR DUPLICITY WITH ‘…LARCENY’ THAT EVIDENTIALLY REQUIRES ‘…VALUE.’
***
ATTORNEYS SHALL LOOK FOR: ‘…Three of the said animals valued $1, 500’ [Paragraph 2].
***
APPLICATION FOR AMENDMENT
Still, the keenly observant ‘…Police Prosecutor’ may apply for ‘…AMENDMENT’ and have the ‘VALUE OF $1, 500’ deleted from the ‘…RECEIVING CHARGE.’
***
STRATCOM:
MAY WISH TO TAKE NOTE, AND ACCORDINGLY GUIDE ITSELF WITH FUTURE PRESS RELEASES ON THIS CHARGE-‘…RECEIVING STOLEN PROPERTY.’
***
Praedial larceny has been prevalent in Antigua for donkey years and most of the thieves goes unpunished. Most animal farmers over the years just count their loses and move on. It is good to see that some of the culprits are caught. I hope their punishment and sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.
