(PRESS RELEASE)

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology is reporting there were no major injuries to students who were involved in a school bus accident at Creek Side this morning.

The Antigua and Barbuda Transport Board 32-seater Bus used to transport students was heading to Jennings Secondary School, when a van allegedly stopped abruptly, causing the shuttle to slam into its back.

The female student who was seated in the front seat of the school bus suffered minor injuries to her foot and was transported to Mount St. Johns Medical Centre (MSJMC) for medical treatment.

Jennings Secondary School Principal Rosalind Beazer says a private citizen transported the remaining 13 students from the scene of the accident to the school.

She added that the students are traumatized and their parents were summoned to take them home.
The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology continues to monitor the status of the students who were aboard the school bus.

  1. Happy that nothing serious happened to the students. Often times when I’m travelling to work in the mornings I have to slow down to crawling speeds cause I’m worried that I might succumb to the same fate if I had to make a sudden stop. Something needs to be done about these drivers of passenger vehicles. I don’t want to get started on the regular bus drivers when school just finish or the taxi drivers when cruise ship in, scrambling like dogs when you throw out a piece of chicken skin! Speed traps need to be set along popular ‘highways’ and violators need to be dealt with severely. Thank God there was divine intervention this morning. It could have been way worse. Solutions to issues like these are the things that would attract my vote. But then again in the politicians’ eyes we’re all just dunces.😞

  2. Them school bus driver drive them school kids in them bus to fast i seen them so many time driving so fast like them in a. Hurry i hope the transport board clamp down on them. …. Am so happy these kids are ok

    • My child was one of them and I believe him to be the worst affected. ..can hardly move his left foot had to be Xrayed. Sent home on medication. Calling on all relevant authority to investigate this properly.
Lastly I believe the principal was more traumatized than the student, instead of calling parents to come get your injured child, she should tell them meet them at the hospital.

      • The passenger bus actually should not have removed them from the accident scene until police and medics arrived. She did the best she could under the circumstances.
