
A minor earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.7 was recorded early Friday north-northeast of Antigua, according to automated data from University of the West Indies and the Seismic Research Centre.
The quake occurred at 4:46 a.m. local time (8:46 a.m. UTC) on Jan. 31, with an estimated depth of 12 kilometers. The epicenter was located at latitude 17.58 degrees north and longitude 61.73 degrees west.
Preliminary estimates place the epicenter about 53 kilometers north-northeast of St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda; roughly 102 kilometers northeast of Brades, Montserrat; and approximately 115 kilometers east-northeast of Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis.
No immediate reports of damage or injuries were received.
The Seismic Research Centre said the location and magnitude are preliminary and were automatically calculated by computer algorithms. The information may be revised following further analysis by SRC scientists.
