$2000 Fine! MP’s Approve Bill To Curb Smoking Cannabis In Public

1. I must commend the Attorney General for a job well done. It is high time that this nonsense of public marijuana smoking be put to an end. We were given the freedom to grow 4 plants and use weed at home. There is no reason to be smoking in public. Too many times people feel the need to be smoking when they should be working and even in places where children are present.

2. But which politician lit the fuse for cannabis use to be used – out in the open – here Antigua?

   Who was it that promoted, prompted and pushed the use of this drug to be grown and then sold?

   I’m surprised that the Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin hasn’t mentioned who the main protagonist was behind this unhealthy and well known psychotic drug.

   Benjamin, trying to shut this door after the “[drug] mule” has bolted is going to be nigh on impossible.

   Again, Brixtonian stepping up the political rhetoric and telling it like it is …

3. This broke government going after the people’s money again.. 😂..they so love that the hard working people in Antigua are in a uproar about crimes.. 😂..they are so damn happy, so they can squeeze the people for everything they got.

   Wicked arse government..is this the best solution Mr PM, violating peoples rights left right and center?

   2 As a weed smoker for 25 years I find its way
   worse to smell cigarettes or cigars smoking in
   public…I am sure people who don’t smoke
   don’t want to smell cigarettes or cigars
   either…

   3 It’s unfair that someone can have the
   opportunity to go outside in open air and
   smoke a cigarette which is proven to be more
   dangerous and a weed smoker can’t have
   the same privilege….

   4 Introducing a fine on public smoking must
   include cigarettes and cigars…

   I don’t have a problem with it just go back to the drawing board and think about how dangerous cigarette smoke is and include it….Ohhhj wait sorry rich people smoke cigarettes and cigars which include friends of people in charge……hmmmmmm……But yeah think about it still…..

6. I really do not understand why these young people or even older one, want to be seen smoking in public. Except for a Reggae concert that you would want the vibes in order to enjoy yourself with a good high on the music. I, an ex smoker cannot understand this. Yes a teenager it shows you’re and look tough. But being high in public is so limited. You cannot relax as you want to like when in the confine of your own dwelling place. Being high on cannabis is a relaxing exercise. That is why I do not understand people saying it makes them violent. I have yet to see a violent Rasta. Every thing they do is cool man, peace, Jah Love. And if they are stone to the bone they just fall asleep. I always believe it is the mixture with alcohol and other drugs that has them acting crazy. When my gardener smoke his weed he works like a horse. None Stop. That is why I would never tell him not to smoke.

7. I love the energy but why stop there.. Lets include cigarettes and alcohol as well.. Why is Marijuana the one that outlawed.. Paint all the bad influences with the same brush.

It’s not too far off for a little reprieve because you are already planning the next election but in the meantime, collect the $2k from them and if they can’t pay,send them to 1735 and not to the former Airforce Base.

11. How does one define “public.” Isn’t it hypocritical to legalize a certain quantity of ganja for so called personal use and then want to dictate how and where to smoke it? I am a non smoker but I think that this law is counter productive in its intent if the same rules are not put in place for cigarette and tobacco smokers.

12. Ignorance rules. I can’t believe that some of the people who post here are allowed to vote. Cannabis is an hallucinatory drug. It changes your brain. That is a fact. Cigarettes can give lung cancer but does not change your brain. The reason the PM decriminalized weed was to prevent young people from getting a criminal record which would prevent them getting a job or visa. It was the AG who failed to add the other legal restrictions which caused the national problem we now have of school children openly smoking weed. Not to mention the adult men who go to work high and cannot function. Construction workers are the worse. High all day and productivity is zero. Had people been grateful for the 4 plants and the right to smoke in the privacy of their homes, we would not now be here. So now you pay for your ignorance.

Cannabis is not for everybody…we know that….u cant stop anything from reaching anybody…as long as they want something they’re gonna get it regardless of how…..you cant blame society because u allowed them to raise your child….there are many ppl out there that never smoked or drunk and they stiill have frens that do….its becauseof the way they were raised y they dont take part in it…..if u dont spend the proper time with your child they are gonna seek from the environtment that they are around…..as i said earlier cannabis is not for everybody but so is alcohol and cigarettes…it helps you to keep calm n relax ….i never heard of a person dieing or being sick from cannabis….it makes some ppl tired or soo relaxed that they dont want to move too much but that doesnt mean u cant focus….those who are affected like that should simply choose a proper time to use cannabis …preferbly after work ……once again banning cannabis which helps a person to relax in troubled n angering times will only lead to more violence SO THINK ABOUT THAT BAN AGAIN

15. The authorities could start by cleaning Market Street, especially on a Friday or Sarurday night before it becomes Antigua’s Gaza Strip.. That section of Market Street between the VC Bird Bust and Tanner Street in particular is almost impassable even to vehicular traffic.

And the government is taking the fight to the persons who blatantly abuse the controlled substance in public places not at your homes. So if you don’t want to pay a $2000 dollar fine. Smoke at your home and not in public areas. Let me say this. I don’t condone smoking 🚬 cigarettes, cigars or marijuana. Because no smoking at all is good for your lungs 🫁 but marijuana gets to your brain 🧠 as well as your lungs.

18. Good morning. Wishing you all in Antigua and Barbuda a wonderful day. To all those who is against what law was passed in parliament yesterday, don’t have no love for there country nor the environment.
    Yes one , spoke about cigarettes is worse than the herb, I do agree. The smell of cigarettes let me feel like am passing out. They should do the same with the cigarette. I know this would be a mountain to climb. lol.

    I still understand many who dont smoke dont want to smell it and yes the youths should not be smoking especially in public I agree 100% so put a fine one SMOKING in general dont specify what type of smoke…..

The main reason why the other very dangerous types of smoke wont be added to the list is because of TOURISM…..Tourist want to walk around and smoke their Cancer sticks unbothered…If the government was to ever include tobacco smoking in the fine it would affect tourism as a large majority of tourist are chain smokers….WE NEED THE WHITE MAN’S MONEY……LET EM SMOKE AND PUT U AT RISK WITH HIS SECOND HAND SMOKE…..

21. @ Truth Seeker….Sigh… U talking about being on the job high…..What about the beers and amount of beer tins you will find at a construction site garbage bin will make you realize why the jobs sometimes dont get completed on time…….Yes lets talk about substances that can affect you on the job……Their are other potent and common drugs that are being used today….LSD and Molly and the new bad boys…..Lets talk about the RPFAB Alcoholics who sneak a few beers whenever they can and YES I have seen it for myself many times….They love to visit spanny bars………STOP BLAME WEED ALONE!!!!!!! Children were always smoking long before this new weed law…..I started smoking weed in 1999 at age 13 in second form and my parents never knew because I always made sure I used Eye drops and body spray….My eyes are naturally small so there was not much of a difference….Weed made me hold a meds but not act stupid or slow and always give me good vibes up to this day 25 years later…I finished school with 10 CXCs….I went State College and worked in Financial Institutions (Banks and Night Auditor) and I am now a business owner….Yes we are all different and some of us cant handle weed just like some cant handle alcohol it’s not for everybody..I can tell you though that weed and I mean natural weed smoking is a calmer and not the problem……YES place a fine to curb public smoking but include Tobacco Smoking..

    I dont have a problem smoking at my home where I mainly smoke but let the tobacco smokers be included in the fine THE END….

This bill aims to address rising crime by increasing penalties for cannabis possession and eliminating violation tickets………..I am still trying to figure out how this is addressing crime…..This law is simply addressing public smoking of specifically marijuana….In the villages they will smoke….u cant tell ppl they cant smoke at fetes otherwise the fetes will empty……The youths will smoke where ever they can……If you are trying to stop the youths from getting high this wont work JUS BEING REAL it wont solve a thing……As Ras Smooth said EDIBLES to WINES to TEAS to OTHER SNACKS WILL GIVE YOU THE SAME POSITIVE VIBES! They dont need to smoke it….
