The Comptroller of Customs, Raju Boddu, attributed this growth to various factors, including improved efficiency in revenue collection and increased economic activity.

Boddu highlighted the impact of seasonal events and continued growth in construction projects as contributors to the increased revenue collection.

Furthermore, major events such as the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup also played a significant role in driving higher levels of consumption and subsequently increasing customs revenues.

The Comptroller emphasized that the country’s economy stands to benefit from these major events, as they generate increased demand, leading to higher import volumes and, subsequently, more customs revenues.

He also noted that the total value of goods imported into the country is expected to exceed $2 billion in 2024, surpassing the previous year’s figures.

Notably, imports for the first half of 2024 have already surpassed the $1 billion mark.\CLICK HERE TO JOIN OUR WHATS APP GROUP

  1. Continue to tax the inflated costs of imports and then add another two percent ABST on that. While you and the government may talk about the large revenue increase, Antiguans who have to pay the higher prices are sinking deeper and deeper into poverty and can’t afford to buy proper food for their families.
You may try to fool people with your foolish statement about higher demand and consumption.
