Mere days after Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced that non-performing public sector workers would be sent home, two managers at State Insurance have been fired.

According to reports, Accountant Andre Knight and Life Manager Janice Hodge have been fired because of a lack of confidence in the accuracy of their accounting statements.

Their dismissal comes on the heels of a

Cabinet decision to send the General Manager of the Antigua and Barbuda Public Utilities Authority (APUA), Esworth Martin on pre-retirement leave.

On Monday Chief Executive Officer of the Antigua and Barbuda Airports Authority, Euletta Francis, resigned, citing a lack of respect from Prime Minister Browne.

  1. And since we are on a roll of restructuring our Statutory and SOE, Mr. PM lets move ALL these heads around. Many of them have built little kingdoms and believe that they are the king of the land and they rule with an iron fist. I have learned that in proper corporate governance to move around these ‘musical chairs. At one time you yourself said in connection with school heads, that one principal may have the talent to bring change in another school and therefore moving them around is not such a bad thing. I’m telling you move the entire system around. Some of the staff are under very heavy pressure from their general manager or director. Which ever the title they carry.

  2. I agree with you ©Sidelines. And whilst we are on that, let’s move some government ministers..Can’t get water, move he. Waiting six months for a procedure at the hospital? Fire he. Unsolved murders, delapitated police stations? Fire he. No proper roads and maintenance? Fire he. Economic powerhouse going to the dogs? Fire he. Wadadli ablaze.

    • @Goose&gandereffect,
I agree completely and hope they are replaces with those with the proper education and advance degree, with the personality to manage.

I completely support your response. Any leader that says they can not help a matter of national importance, you do the same. Everyone can help.

    • Maaaaaaaaan you’re genius Goose&andereffect ! Simply genius !
      I’m speechless !
I’d like to take this opportunity to amplify your magnificent speech !
      Well said.

  3. From The Sideline, I concur. While they’re at it, start with the ones passed retirement age who believe their objective is to keep young people down in the organization except those who kiss butts well! They should get the boot right out the door.

    • The I’s have it. Totally agree. Statutory body need to be set in place. To whom much is given, much is expected. Not getting the big bucks and everything going to the dogs. It’s about time ppl are held accountable for their positions and actions. Much respect

  4. I agree with you Sideline. No proper roads, inadequate water supply, waiting six months for operations at the hospital, unsolved murders, no social security benefits payments for those who qualified? Fire all dem goverent ministers not performing. Economic powerhouse in a state of affairs? Who to be fired?

  5. Now the Prime Minister needs to do the same in his Cabinet, with the Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin and the Housing Minister Maria Browne Browne, who also are also non-performing Public Sector workers.

I am also looking for EQUAL consistency of scrutiny with government servants.

The Prime Minister of the UK has just sacked one of his Cabinet members (the Home Secretary Suella Braverman) for incitement and dereliction.

COME ON GASTON YOU CAN DO THE SAME!

  6. Almighty World Boss: Sooooo…Wah ah goan? Me ah hear ar u na do wah ar u supposed to
dey ah do..Government ah pay ar u over 15K every month fa nar
perform and mek ma government look bad? E?

SIC managers: Please Almighty World Boss we are doing our best….We have children and
    mortgages..Have Mercy!

Almighty World Boss: OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!!!

  7. Cleansing or a purge! ABLP was born out of the bowels of workers and the Labour Union. Such firings goes against the spirit of their own movement.

    • @Audley your response tells me you miss read or prefer to ignore this part: “According to reports, Accountant Andre Knight and Life Manager Janice Hodge have been fired because of a lack of confidence in the accuracy of their accounting statements.”

When you worked at C&W, such was tolerated? In the past you have articulated the need for public entities to perform. Clearly Chet was right when he labelled you: ” a fraud” who has no problem causing A&B damage. see “Greene accuses Audley Phillip of being a ‘fraud’ with evil intentions”

      • Who did you say accused Audrey Phillip of fraud? This sounds like NERO calling someone a THIEF and a LUNATIC. You, TENMAN, need to read the book, ‘FOUL’, by Andrew Jennings, which features Chet Greene. Can you guess what was the accusation?

    • Telemaque a mek 27,000.00 per month plus travel, housing and plenty per diem. Whey he dey. Port pon strike and go slow and poor people can’t get dem Cargo.

  8. Hmmm. Makes me wonder to motive behind these firings!!! All of a sudden accuracy of financial statements is being raised? Something seems smelly.

    • @N
Yes something indeed smells. Remember the accountant from ‘Medical Benefits’ who went to Jail for issuing fraudulent cheques to a Minister? Funny only the accountant went to jail, while the minister who pocketed the money walked free.
Remember, the head of government operates like a gangster with conniving thought out plans.

    • Could it be that this has been going on for years and that the board is now taking drastic measures. Cause if you fire someone for providing you inaccurate financial statements it would seen as unfair dismissal. And I know the chap Andre Knight. Both he and his wife are Qualified Accounting Professionals. But I also know that the chairwoman of the board is also a Qualified Accounting Professional. And know that State Insurance Company is no longer a Statutory Corporation.
I await for more detail to be published surrounding this firing.

  9. “Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality.”
FIRE YOURSELF GASTON! STEP DOWN!…and take your blind posse with you!
This country needs a leader who puts country first…not his pockets!
This country needs a leader with the proper vision for the coutry…yes, the PROPER VISION!
    GET THE HELL OUT!
BTW…how’s LIAT December launch going? Insiders say you’re screwed again!
Sounding off and threatening and firing people will not distract the intelligent citizens of this country. State Boards and APUA should be the least of your worries. You have BIGGER PROBLEMS AHEAD!
    You are an EMBARRASSMENT!

  10. Cleanse and clean-up the country. Wondrous start; and all areas must POLITICALLY disinfected – where’s the Lysol?

1526 days remaining of ABLP governance. 😁

Hip, hip … gooway Gaston 🥸

  11. Gaston says he fired the accountant at state insurance because of a lack of confidence in the accuracy of their accounting statements. Was this the findings of the external auditors or is Gaston an accountant. Watch the pattern, all about money. When records disappear, don’t blame the previous accountant.
He will just put his yes person in the positions. Accountants should uphold the professional standards and integrity their profession dictates.
    Follow the money.

  12. Strange how you guys are all calling on the PM to fire people. To date the PM has not fired anyone. People resign because they cannot handle the pressure they are put under in order to perform. You will have five years to evaluate the Gaston Browne ABLP government and if you are lucky you can fire them. But so far the majority has voted them back into government. Although the signs are clear, people want the PM to be more stern with the public servants.
Demand performance, cause in the end you guys will blame it on him anyway. Look at how the APUA Water Division has not performed and that almost has cost him the election. Well I would have fired them before I get fired. If we have to go down, lets go down together.
Anyway I never called for firing anyone in my comments above. I simply said to move them around. They do that all the time with Permanant Secretaries. Why not do the same with the heads of the Statutory and State Owned Corporations. People are getting to comfortable in their position. And declare themselves KING. One even is calling himself the Head Nigger in Charge. The PM should have his ears close to the ground and listen to the complaints of the staff. Do not ignore staff complaints about their managers. Cause some managers are not people persons and have no management training whatsoever. They do not know how to work and get along with others. I always say you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. In one company as the executive I used to open my house for my entire staff at Christmas. And those days my Christmas parties were the talk of the town. But that build cammoradery amongst the staff. One year we even hire the Jolly Roger for a staff day cruise.

  13. First off Greetings folks…without going into any long, thought process, I’ll just mention a few phrases, etc., and keep enjoying the comments…Nuff positive love and life fu #Dadli!

Now, the Gaston Browne, PM, has just forged the #nails, that will seal his coffin as, Prime Minister.

A…his coffin cover was put on with the beating, which he got from MP ‘Shugy’ Simon, and the UPP in St. Mary’s South. Now the Public disrespect to some of the Government top Managers has assured his faith, as his coffin is nailed ✉️⚰️⚰️shut. I, reserved one for me, for when my time comes too. Hey, dig wan hole fu U self, too!

B…the firing, of Dean Jonas to these present two(2) at State Insurance, shows he, the PM is hot under his collar.

C…I, can agree with one of his #goons, tenman when he stated, “according to reports, Accountant Andre Knight and Life Manager Janice Hodge have been fired because of a lack of confidence in the accuracy of their accounting statements.” Mr. Hughes, did I get that quote correct? I, have to deal with chameleons, as soon, as they change and stop them dead in their tracks.

Then Mr. Carnelle, it should be easy, to get to every other Government Agency and get an Independent Gorensic Audit, if litigation come out, of anyone of these firings from Dean Jonas to these two at State Insurance.

I’ll add these Cold Cases, as a #BONUS to and for the People…
    1…THE IHI TAPES!
2…THE HUGE COST OVERRUN at the ABBA during the reconstruction/rehabilitation, of the old to new VCB International Airport. UPP have some questions to answer with this one.
    3…Brazil’s Odebrecht Corruption Scandal.
    4…The Alfa Nero.
5…The Antigua Airways Saga from the Inaugural flight to this Air Peace & LIAT deal.
6…The forged PM signature and how it was covered up.
    7…Right back to these firings.

I know Dean Jonas, and the others are consulting with attorney’s, as to options, and I hope for the sake of ACCOUNTABILITY FROM TOP TO BOTTOM! None, no not one, not even the Governor General is #EXEMPTED, and each an everyone speaks #TRUTH to POWER!

UPP be mindful, WPP – Wadadli Power Plant might be a Cold Case too, but you owe the Public a better account, of that.

    #back_2_da_comments.
An informal survey on this topic says, GASTON HAFFU, PACK HE GORGEE BUNGLE AND RUN GOH WEY! No left Antigua fu good, lakkah Papa Doc, dung a Haiti.

  14. Mannnnnyyyyy of GOVERNMENT CIVIL WORKERS NEEDS TO ALSO GET PINK SLIPS FOR XMAS
UNPRODUCTIVE jus sit at government offices stealing and only there to use the government internet
Always acting like you bothering them when you enter the offices

All those meNiless conversations can be had on break or better yet when your fired

PM IF IT ONE TIME IM WITH YOU A 1000% percent is getting rid of INPRODUCTIVE GOVERNMENT WORKERS

    • Wow that is so senless and on Christmas. Most people don’t have options on this small Islands. There is over qualified individuals who has not find work as yet. One of the worse thing is to lose your job in Antigua at this particular time. The wheels of justice is also very slow, to get your money for unfair dismissal will take years.

  15. SIDELINES:IN order to give the civil servants their increases.Your Siamese twin Gaston Browne is increasing sales taxes by 2%.He did say,he was going to borrow Antigua and Barbuda out of DEBT.NOW,HE IS GOING TO TAX THE PEOPLE TO DEATH.

    • You guys always complain about everything. When the UPP Introduced ABST where was your criticism? When they introduced PIT where was your criticism? When they raised the price of cooking gas frim $20.00 to $32.00 where was your criticism? It seems you only cry when Labour Party does that. And at least they do that for the betterment of the pensioners. When the UPP, Dr. Cort, was ask by a lady named Sasha Mercier, what will my PIT be used for? He could not say. At least the Prime Minister explained that he is raising this tax in order to pay for the increase in the Pensioners’ pensions.
And you guys always big up Mia Mothley, but she had no consultation and overhauled the entire tax system, having businesses run helter skelter. Everyone is bawling out how Mia is killing them with taxes. But you guys are praising her in the skies. Just because of your hatred for the man called Gaston Browne, our visionary Prime Minister. Look how he was considered to introduce a tax only on financial institutions to finance UWI Five Islands. We have a tax on guest. The Tourism Guest Levy, this assist us in Marketing our Country and we have seen the fruits of this in the increase in our tourism. We have a special Telecom Tax for incoming calls into our country only. Those are all creative ways to raise revenues without burdening the local poor people. But you can do so much and now he has to go to the majority of the tax payers. But I also say the IRD need to be more vigilant in the collection of our taxes and they need to flush out those corrupt tax collectors that are double dipping, collecting from the business community under the table and then giving them understated tax estimates. Their is too much corruption going on in that department. Some are even preparing the returns for the businesses.

  16. Did Gaston want the Accountant to pad the Books.Juggling the figure to get the results he wanted. The Accountant deals with figures of profit and loss on a spread sheet.Anyone within State Insurance authorized could log into their laptops and look at the numbers. That is one of the ways. They would know how well the Insurance Company is doing.

  17. I surmise that these people are not towing the line anymore or have never done so. We need to take this one seriously because things could turn physical. He might need to switch to some other medicine, the risperdal seems not to be effective anymore

  18. Gaston has to be a dim-witted man, or the most self-confident man in the world. So self confident that he as leader can leave this country with all its turmoil and dissatisfied people and go off without a care in the world.

So self-confident that at a time when people are hard up for money and don’t know where their next bread is coming from. So he could take big money from the treasury to go with his wife who is a minister in name only and boy George and they all go off on a joy ride.

While the people here just chat and chat on radio station and fraid like hell to do anything while he is away.
