19-Year-Old Held in Custody for Months Awaiting Trial on School Break-in Charges

A 19-year-old Gerard DeFreitas, has been held in custody for nearly four months awaiting trial.

DeFreitas is accused of breaking into Clare Hall Secondary School, climbing the compound wall with a weapon on January 31.

His alleged accomplice remains at large. DeFreitas was charged with trespassing, possession of an offensive weapon, and assault.

He pleaded not guilty in court but has been remanded to prison.

The trial, originally scheduled for April, has been adjourned twice and is now set for June 27.
