Speaking on Pointe FM yesterday, Commissioner Rodney highlighted the need for increased manpower to address the ongoing challenges in crime prevention and enforcement.

“We are adding 140 new officers to strengthen our ranks and ensure we maintain a strong and visible presence throughout the country,” Rodney stated. “This significant boost will enhance our ability to respond swiftly to incidents and continue our proactive measures against crime.”

The new officers will be deployed strategically, focusing on key areas to increase patrols and conduct targeted operations.

Commissioner Rodney assured the public that this move is part of a broader strategy aimed at ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.

  1. This will not have the substantial impact it should have because they would not be used in strategic ways designed by careful and in depth research and analysis given by those experts in the field of social and behavioral sciences. Policing requires understanding the people, criminals, victims, patterns, youths, weapons, potential risk, possibilities, etcetera and using those information to make your limited resources as effective as possible.

Just driving AROUND in a patrol car without knowledge of these information in a manner that was carefully analyzed and applied into the work will not yield YOUR BEST WORK.

I want to congratulates these folks for entering this honorable field but I pray you can contribute as effectively as you can to the country and that requires experts that spent years studying related fields who are able to provide vital guidance.

  2. On a very positive and upbeat note, 140 new police officers are better than none.

I watched these young recruits being supervised during Antigua’s carnival celebrations, and was very impressed by how they were looking out for any untoward behaviour amongst the crowds.

I SUPPORT THIS RECRUITMENT. BETTER LATE THAN NEVER …
