The knock-on effect from the increase of fuel prices now seems to be impacting Liquid Propane Gas (LPG) with news emerging that the price for the 100 pound cylinder is expected to increase on April 1.
A caller to a local radio station indicated that after placing a call to the distributor of her cooking gas she was informed of the price increase.
The Villa resident says that she was also told that if she paid for the tank by Thursday (March 31) she would get it for the customary $155 price.
However, on Friday (April 1) it would increase by $20 to $175.
This was also confirmed by a Real News source.
Apparently the distributors who have to transport the 100-pound gas cylinders to businesses and private residents are feeling the pinch from the recent fuel increase.
Therefore, the burden is being passed on to the consumers.
Only taxi and bus operators and fishermen have been given a subsidy on fuel, in order to avoid an increase in public transportation fares and the price for seafood.
The price for fuel increased at the pumps on Tuesday, March 15 from $12.50 to $15.50 per gallon for gasoline while diesel has moved to $15.70 per gallon.

The local contractors have not gotten paid for months. Only the Middle Easterners brothers up by grammar school, the kool, east of public market and them race of people getting money from we treasury. Them say year end so local contractors have to wait until new budget, then budget debating. Week after week is a next story. I could not sit in a seat like accountant General and see how our people are treated and how the others races are treated and don’t do nothing about it. They go up stairs and collect their big fat checks. It is our money that make them rich. The local contractors have to refuse government jobs and even working for those same white people because they are getting paid . Baba dunce e bat a get paid because he a half it . The black Antiguans contractors are suffering. Yet social security, MBS , Education levy , inland revenue are after us like blood hounds. Then Fuel gone up, cooking gas gone up , food stuff gone up , air freight gone up , ocean freight gone way up. Try going to the supermarket and shop snd you will see the little bit of stuff you get for your for your money. Help me readers- a wa na gone up? Calling on the government to pay the local contractors. Calling on PWD to send over the vouchers . Calling on Lenox and Gaston Brown to pay our local contractors and stop embarrassing them. Them store guys are getting on in Antigua because they are getting our Jobs and payment early and bright. I even see the best of Antiguan contractors end up working for them and that is a shame. Antiguans we need to join hand and make the necessary chase . It’s our grand parents that fought, that died for this country . I cannot see how you black Antiguan politicians have sold out our birthright. Just for their personal gains.
