  1. This is very good to give the young people a change to get some work experience. We are losing too many of our youth to the develop North America. And the elder do not want to move aside to make space for them. What I want to suggest to the government is to restructure the workforce and to introduce shorter working weeks for people on their last five years to retirement. Have them start working one day less a week, and then gradually two days until one day in their last year before retirement. This way they do not fall into retirement so instantly and can better plan what and how they go about their retirement. Secondly it makes room for young people to be given a change on the job and gain some experience. And perhaps they can then get fulltime employment after a few years having done the work successfully.

    • @Less… Interesting idea but instead of older persons working fewer days a week they should spend their last year or so training the next person in line. Too often there is no continuity plan in place. When even managers leave, new managers are appointed sometimes from other Departments, Ministries etc. and have little or no knowledge of how things were done before their arrival. So, often without even consulting workers who were there for years, they change things in new ways that don’t always mesh well with the system in place and cause a lot problems and unnecessary conflicts. So, having the new person first take on an assistant role before becoming permanent in the position would help. Apart from that, young people should not just sit around waiting for old persons to retire. The old persons have a right to work until social security kicks in. Society needs to expand organisations, create new ones etc. as the population increases. People can’t just expect to live off of what was already in place. New pioneers need to develop new resources etc. from the ground up but of course in an environmentally sustainable way.

Either my post was not clear to you, but we are in fact saying almost the same thing. It has been implemented in some European countries already. It’s even further today that not only older folks but everyone almost enjoys a 32 hours workweek. And especially since Covid has shown that people can work from home, many job allow staff to work a couple days from home and some days from the office. As long as you complete your assignments on time. Mentoring the young ones takes years, that is why I say in the last five year before their retirement they can work one they less each year and train the newcomers to take over and do the job right. And as I said it prepares people better for their retirement when it happens gradually.
